Michael J. Slevens, Founder & CEO
Michael leads Tax Recourse, LLC. and has over 25 years of experience in commercial real estate and ad valorem tax appeal representation. Michael began his career as an assistant appraiser hired by a commercial appeal firm, becoming Generally Certified in the state of New Jersey in 1994. He has held positions throughout his career in both the Property Tax Consultant field, such as a Senior Property Tax Consultant for Deloitte & Touche, LLP, as well as the Corporate Tax field, holding the position of Manager of Property Tax for Toys “R” Us, Inc. Having worked on both sides Michael is uniquely positioned to understand the needs of commercial clients regarding the protest and appeal process. Throughout his career he has and continues to represent clients with large commercial portfolios, such as, Toys “R” Us, Cafaro, Home Depot, and Brixmor Properties. Michael’s extensive experience in commercial property tax appeal and protest cases consulting both locally in Texas and nationally, has developed him as an expert in negotiating values, and identifying long term tax saving strategies for commercial property owners. Michael is a State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser in New Jersey, and is a registered Senior Property Tax Consultant with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
Marissa C. Sweet, Chief Operating Officer
Marissa manages over the day to day operations at Tax Recourse, LLC. In addition, she leads the sales and marketing team at Tax Recourse, LLC. She has an experienced background in sales and marketing for over 10 plus years. She emphasizes and maintains each of her clients receive superior customer service and a customized approach to their target goals related to commercial tax appeal and protest. She believes that each protest filed is just as important as the next as it saves many commercial businesses on their bottom line. She graduated from the University of Houston with a double major in Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Management. Marissa is a licensed Property Tax Consultant in the State of Texas, a licensed appraiser apprentice in the State of Texas, and a licensed real estate agent in the State of Texas. She is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and a proud supporter of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo based in Texas.
